| Tribute to Russell Banks |
|
Russell Banks, the acclaimed novelist, will be presented with the first Adirondack Arts and Humanities Award at a special celebration at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th at the Adirondack Community Church. The evening is part of the John Brown 150th Commemoration, a weekend of symposiums and other activities focusing on the life and legacy of John Brown. Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, William Kennedy, will present the award to Banks who is being honored for his commitment to civil rights issues and his support of many local charitable and arts organizations. It so happens that Banks’ fascination with John Brown led to “Cloudsplitter,” one of his most memorable novels. In addition to his many accomplishments as a novelist and a screenwriter, he is co-founder of the Lake Placid Film Forum which is presented annually by the Adirondack Film Society.
